My sister and I were at Starbucks today and we read James 2 for our devotion and after we got done with our devo, God gave us an opportunity to apply what we just learned. As we were leaving the shop, we saw Bruce outside just right next to the door. And I told my sister we are going to give him some food and we’re gonna pray for him.
I approached him and asked if he’s hungry. And he said he was so gave him a sandwich and a drink. We started talking and I learned that he lost his job at GM which led to losing pretty much everything he had in life and now he’s homeless. I thought in my head, “Man, God I don’t have anything to offer to this guy. What else can I do?” And then as soon as I said those words to God, I felt the need to ask him if he’s in pain. Sure enough he said his right foot was giving a throbbing pain. I asked if he wants to be healed and if he believed that Jesus can heal him. He said yes on both.
I laid my hands on his right foot, and simply thanked God for Bruce and for his heart. I commanded the right foot to be healed and the throbbing pain to leave his body in Jesus name. I asked if he feels any different and his response was, “Wow. I don’t feel any throbbing pain anymore. It’s gone. Like I don’t feel it anymore. Thank you so much!” I told him Jesus just healed him and that God loves him so much! He was so happy and told me that he knows about Jesus and has accepted him in his heart. Praise God! He told me that he can’t wait to be in heaven with Jesus.
Man, you guys, God is so good and so faithful. I’m so humbled by this man’s faith and perseverance. We didn’t have anything to give to this guy besides food for his stomach, miraculous healing for his foot and a simple sweet reminder that Jesus loves him for his heart.
As Christ followers let’s not forget the power of prayer. When we pray for someone, we don’t just lift them up to the Father’s throne, but we are bringing heaven, God’s kingdom into their lives. When we bring the kingdom of God into their lives through a simple sincere and genuine faith, chains are broken, lives are healed and hearts are open. Christ is magnified and revealed through it all!
Jesus thank you for allowing me to be used today to shine your love and goodness to Bruce. So blessed to meet him and just pray for him. But most importantly, Bruce is blessed because even though he is poor in spirit and in his present situation, Your kingdom is for him and eternity in heaven waits for him! All glory and praises to You Father.
