Everyday we go out to the world faced with different challenges, situations & circumstances. I’ll be honest with you, I have those days where it’s so hard to be like Christ. Whether I’m at school, work or even at church.
It’s so easy for me to get caught up with the things that’s going on around me, and with the people that I’m hanging out with, or the things I see and hear. Even as a Follower of Christ, I find myself conforming to the patterns of this world from time to time. My actions, and my very words.
I’m sure you’ve said some things that you know you shouldn’t have said. But check out this passage:
Either make the tree good & its fruit good, or make the tree bad & its fruit bad. For the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. - Matthew 12:33-36
This passage has reminded me again how I can’t just let myself slip up to my old ways and that I have to constantly guard my heart from any impure thoughts and ways. Because whatever I store in my heart, is what comes out from it.
The heart is the fountain, words are the streams
But praise God for His unfailing love and unmeasurable grace that is available for us everyday. We don’t have to remain and continue in this path of lukewarmness. Instead repent from it, and ask God to constantly change our hearts and minds and be conformed to His. (Romans8:28)
Let us keep constant watch over ourselves, may the words we speak be only about love, kindness, truth, joy, and edifying to one another. By our fruits, (our words and actions) people can see that we are different and we are His people.
Let us speak words that matches the character of our dear Savior Jesus Christ.
In Christ,
