… “But, nobody’s perfect, so why practice?” - Culture

Ever heard this line before? I’m sure a lot of you did. This is what our culture taught us when you hear the word ‘Perfection’. For some reason, the word perfect, and the idea of perfection is just a scary, heavy, unrealistic & an unattainable word/lifestyle/trait.

But I think Jesus’ idea & thoughts of perfection is different, when He said:

Be perfect, therefore, as your Heavenly Father is perfect. - Matthew 5:48

When He said ‘Be perfect’, I don’t think He’s calling us to be ‘without flaw’ as what the English definition is saying. I think what He meant was to be ‘wholehearted, resolute, genuinely commited to walking with Him in love and grace’ as in ‘Tam or Tam’im’ in Hebrew.

We need to look at this passage differently and so as the word “Perfect”. God calls us to be perfect, not without flaw, but to be wholehearted in pursuit of Him. When we serve others, let’s have a mindset that we are doing it for the Lord. We don’t only do good to those who were good to us, but to do good, to those who has done evil towards us.

God calls us to display real kindness and genuine love, because He is Real and He is Love.

At the end of the day, we should desire, aim and press towards perfection in grace and holiness through Christ.

As Christians and children of God, more is to be expected from us than from others. Why? because we are His hands and feet. We represent Him. The only way people would come to know God is through us, and using our lives as vessels for His glory alone.

let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. - Matthew 5:16

Let’s strive for perfection, by practicing what Jesus preached to us 2000 years ago! Let’s do it.
